Privacy Policy

Prose is a Chrome extension that provides writing coaching inside Google Docs. This policy explains what data Prose handles and how.

What we process

Document text. When you request feedback (an analysis, rewrite, thesis check, or rubric check), the relevant text is sent over HTTPS to our API service, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the response. We do not store your document text on our servers. Anthropic processes it under their privacy policy and does not train models on this data by default.
Google Docs access. Prose uses Google's read-only Docs permission solely to read the text of the document you're working on, so it can coach you. Prose never edits your document and never accesses other files in your Drive.
Anonymous install ID. Each install generates a random identifier used only for rate limiting and license activation. It is not linked to your name, email, or Google account.
Usage counters. Our server keeps daily request counts per anonymous ID (for fair-use limits). These auto-delete after 2 days.
License keys. If you buy Pro, your payment is handled entirely by our payment processor; we never see your card details. Our server stores your license key's activation status against your anonymous install ID.

Writer profile. Scores, tone words, and writing-habit patterns from your past analyses (never essay text) are stored only in your browser's local extension storage. You can view and delete individual entries in Settings → Writing History, or wipe everything at any time. Uninstalling the extension deletes it all.
Settings. Goals, word targets, and preferences are stored locally.

Prose is intended for students aged 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
